41 Weeks Old

Visiting Grandmama at Torrance Memorial

Not the most hygienic of photoshoots, I get it.  Or actually, maybe it was the cleanliest out of all the spots we've shot at.  I mean, Torrance Memorial Hospital is top notch and very clean.  Might just be saying that to myself so I feel a bit better about placing my infant son on a hospital floor but when you're balancing the art of taking care of your parent and your child simultaneously, you do what ya gotta do.

My mom is currently in recovery after a total knee replacement, a procedure which is over 40-years-long overdue.  A sports injury from her college days has left her with ever-increasing excruciating pain in her right knee and via God's perfect timing, we're still here in California to assist her as she heals post-op.  Praising God her operation is complete, and that she's now awake and adjusting.   After the procedure, mom's surgeon spoke with me regarding her knee.  According to him it was one of the worst he'd ever seen as her cartilage had worn away.  She has suffered for years with bone grinding on bone.

Before that early morning drive to the hospital, we spent a few days housesitting (and cat-sitting) for Trevor's brother.  Dustin and Anna thoughtfully prepared their home for us and welcomed us with treats and little notes scattered everywhere indicating where we could find various things we might need during our stay.  How freaking sweet!  We cooked, we cleaned, we did all the things we're longing to do in our own home soon.  We're grateful we had a few days to rejuvenate ourselves.

Subtle elements of their apartment remind me of the little abode we left in Colorado only last year.  The stiff stench of cinnamon pine cones met us as we entered the door.  We spot a red Mainstays candle on the dining table.  Shelving on the wall similar to ours which housed all our knick-knacks and treasured photos in frames.

Occasionally I'll think of our little nest in Fort Collins - on Orchard Place, which initially boasted bare and smudge-covered walls that we repainted and covered in copious amounts of picture frames.  But like, for real, y'all.  I even made a gallery wall!  Trevor spruced up various parts of that place to make it extra homey for us.  And for five and half years we called that apartment our home and were blessed to live in FoCo, Colorado.

Wherever we're off to next, I'm ready for the chance at change.  Home decorating is a passion of mine and I'm eager to fully unleash my creative side.  It's been cooped up for far too long!

A note for Future David, Bubs, I apologize.  I couldn't help myself but to get up in your sweet little face and take these chubby-cheeked, ooey-gooey close-ups.

Naps in a public place don't work so well...

Love the sweet anticipating look he's giving her.

Best buds!
